The Daniel Fast Made Delicious

This book could be yours. Read below.

I love reviewing books.
As an editor, book connoisseur, lover of all things verbum, I am in my happy place when I receive a new book in the mail.

(It's a bit like I imagine people feel when Ed McMahon shows up with a fat check.)

Such was the case last week. I received a book that I'm looking to give away at the end of this post. Read on, my fellow book boosters . . .

The Daniel Fast Made Delicious is a cookbook. But it is so much more than that.

Based on the story and diet of Daniel--discovered in the pages of the Old Testament--this book offers a generous collection of recipes that relies heavily on fruits and vegetables. But the book also lends new insight into the concept of fasting.

Within the 224 glossy pages, you will find easy recipes and spiritual encouragement. In short, the refreshment in the book is for the body and the soul.

Better still (for those of you who would rather take a hit to the jaw than eat a breadstick) many of the 175 recipes are 100 percent gluten- and dairy-free.

Lovely all around. I recommend it like lemonade on a summer day.

Check out the book here.

Respond to this post with 1 way to celebrate spring and 1 lucky winner will be finding a bit of love in the mail box with the arrival of this delightful book. I will draw 1 name on Wednesday at noon.

Happy Friday.

Date night to buy flowers then plant them.

We always clean out flowerbeds and then plant new things and find those shoots of things pushing their heads back through the soil after a hibernation during the winter. Our children enjoyed this so much that they are continuing this with their children. Something about dirty little hands.

We celebrate with Spring baskets instead of Easter baskets. To keep Easter focused on Christ, we have chosen to give the kids baskets on the first Saturday after the Vernal Equinox.

I do an advent type event to Easter using Easter eggs and hiding things in them that lead to the Easter story.

I buy some fresh, pink tulips to fill up a big glass vase and brighten up the dining room. Also...I open the windows and AIR OUT THE HOUSE!

Pick me! Pick me! My kids and I take flowers to each of our neighbors. It's nicer outside than in winter so we can stand out and talk longer. Also I make a dirt cake on every first day of spring. It's an odd tradition I learned from mother.

I spend as much time outdoors as I can. I serve several meals on my patio and picnic table. And I let my children stay out later with the light. Fresh air is good for everyone including us adults.

Flowers are definitely my favorite. Planting new ones, as well as exploring the yard for blooming flowers and budding bushes.

Forgive me for this comment, but today a welcome way to celebrate Spring would be to send the kids to the park...with someone else. ;) So, let's take the last part out, and say

Celebrate w/an outing to the park, WITHOUT jackets!

Celebrating spring with CHANGE and PROGRESS! Spring brings back the motivation that I've been lacking all winter. Reminding myself daily to "Just be faithful today" ... keeps me from getting overwhelmed.

We are celebrating Spring by taking time to talk to the birdies. Our little girl (3 years old) asks to see different kinds of birds in her bird book and then can be heard talking out the window, "Hi Mr. Robin!"

Ahhh, Spring! This year it is simply praising God that I have made it through this long winter! Oh, also looking for that first Robin to make his appearance (saw one Saturday!!), and taking a big breath smelling that "new" smell in the air and enjoying that bluer blue sky - even if there IS six inches of fresh snow on the ground!

A way to celebrate Spring is to do nothing and just bask in the quiet of the time. To look up and down and enjoy all the glorious gifts of the season. it is a time to listen to the sounds like birds chirping and soft breezes of winds as they blow through the new plants and leaves as they emerge from sleeping in the winter. Ah Spring!!!

My almost-daily celebration as spring shows up is to open the windows in the morning and sing with the birds! ...even if it is still only about 32 degrees!!! Also, looking forward to lots and lots of asparagus. We eat it like candy when it is fresh and local!

I love celebrating spring with some wonderful lite recipes. Two standbys are pasta salad or get out the grill and throw some veggies on.
